The Presidential Election of 2008 will go down in history as an election that changed politics forever. As with many elections, the Republican candidate did not bring the Party together in unison – one voice and certainly not one vote. Many Republicans felt disenfranchised by the Republican Party’s pick of Senator Jon McCain because he did not represent the Conservative Values that the Republican Party once espoused and proclaimed as what set us apart from the other party.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time that Conservatives have felt this way as Conservatism seemingly has eroded away like sand on the beach when the tides come in. More and more Republicans are becoming “Republican in Name Only” or RINO’s. For too long we have had to choose between the lesser of 2 evils because the leadership has given us options that represent the middle of the road and not the high road.
Too many elections have been lost because we can’t approve of the moderate – liberal – Republican’s that have seized control under the guise of Conservatism within the GOP while in reality, they would be better represented in the DNC.
This election was simply the result of the failed attempt by Republicans to gain moderate voters by moving toward the middle instead of persuading the middle to move to the right.
Insanity is defined by some as “continuing to do the same thing over and over again even though it continues to fail.” It seems that insanity has crept into the Republican Party because we keep losing elections and they keep sending RINO’s
to the podium to announce their candidacy.
Although the Polk County Republican Party is committed to supporting the State and National Republican Party and the candidates that are eventually chosen to run, we have decided that we will begin a grassroots effort to educate our constituents about Conservativism and the history of the Republican Party in hopes that we will re-establish
our foundation as conservatives, embrace conservative values and principles, and select and support true conservatives to become the leaders in the Republican Party.
We hope that you will support us in our efforts. Yes, they are BIG GOALS and they will be difficult to accomplish, but
so much depends on our efforts that we must make a stand and hold the ground we still have. Eventually, we will begin to retake the ground we have lost.
Will you stand beside us? Are you a Conservative?
I am a Conservative because…
-
I believe the strength of our nation lies with the individual and that each person’s dignity, freedom, ability, and responsibility must be honored.
-
I believe in equal rights, equal justice, and equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, creed, sex, age or disability.
-
I believe free enterprise and encouraging individual initiative have brought this nation opportunity, economic growth, and prosperity.
-
I believe government must be proactively fiscally responsible and allow individuals to keep more of the money they earn.
-
I believe the proper role of government is to provide for the people only those critical functions that cannot be performed by individuals or private organizations and that the best government is that which governs least.
-
I believe the most effective, responsible, and responsive governments is government closest to the people.
-
I believe Americans must retain the principles that have made us strong while developing new and innovative
ideas to meet the challenges of changing times. -
I believe Americans value and should preserve our national strength and pride while working to extend peace,
freedom, and human rights throughout the world. -
Finally, I believe the Republican Party is the best vehicle for translating these ideals into positive and
successful principles of government.

Something for Nothing…
“You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.”
Dr. Adrian Rogers, 1931-2005
